Robert W. Plaster Stadium Information
Plaster Stadium (once known as Plaster Sports Complex and Biggs Stadium) is an incredible football field with seating for over 17,300 football fans. It’s located in Springfield, Missouri and is the home field for the Missouri State Bears football team.
The stadium was first built in 1941 as SMS Stadium at a reported cost of $90,000 before World War II. The original capacity was a humble 8,500 spectators. It served the university well over the years and had its first major renaming in 1970, where it became Briggs Stadium. The name came from Arthur Briggs who, at the time, was the school’s all-time winningest coach.
High school football
But don’t think that Plaster Stadium is only about the university athletics. Because this venue is very community oriented as well.
That’s why it has held many of the annual Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) state football championship games. That is, until 1996 when the event was moved to the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis, where they remained through 2015. But when the Rams moved back to Los Angeles in January 2016, the MSHSAA voted to return the games back to Plaster Field in 2016 and FAurot Field at the University of Missouri in Columbia in 2017.
